The best way to avoid virus and spyware problems is to adhere to the following advice:

• Check for Microsoft Security Updates on a weekly basis.
• Use a commercial anti-virus program and keep it up to date.
• Never click a link in an unsolicited email. If you're interested in the site that is emailed to you, go to that web site yourself.
• Avoid file sharing programs such as Kazaa and Limewire. These programs contain adware and spread viruses.
• If you see a pop-up message on your screen, never click inside of it, always click the 'X' in the upper right corner to close the window. Clicking anywhere inside of a popup window can often give the intruder your permission to install their virus or spyware on your computer.
