Network
Cabling
What is Structured Cabling?
Imagine a communications infrastructure that allows you to manage
all your communications - regardless of the protocols and type
of equipment - within a single cabling system…Structured
cabling is a simple infrastructure that can be used to deliver
all voice and data applications to the desktop. The current industry
standard is Category 5e.
Structured cabling is essentially the glue that links everything
together, from Local Area Networks(LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs),
data services and internet access services, to voice/multimedia
and network services such as ISDN and ADSL. It can also be used
to connect building service controls such as alarms and sensors
as well as public address and other systems.
Cabling Layout
The structured cabling scheme provides connections from specified
points around a building, to a central patching location. Voice
switch, LAN hub and telecommunications services are presented here,
from where peripherals can be cross-connected to deliver the required
service wherever it's required around a customer's premises.
You make the changes
With a Structured Cabling Scheme, you'll also be able to make
moves and changes yourself in minutes. When, for example, people
move floors, change desks, or when an entire department is restructured,
they'll be able to plug into their new positions and start working
virtually straight away. The same applies to connecting new equipment
to support new applications. Most new equipment is designed to
plug into a structured cabling scheme.
